Lung Cancer Screening in New Iberia, LA

Early Detection

Early detection of lung cancer is the most powerful way to reduce the risk of illness or death from this disease. Lung screening is an important tool in the fight against lung cancer. Low-dose computerized tomography (low-dose CT scan or LDCT), can find lung cancer before symptoms develop and the cancer spreads. When diagnosed early, treatment can begin and may improve the outlook for remission and recovery.

High-Risk

As part of Iberia Medical Center's expanding cancer and lung services, low-dose CT is offered to aid in the diagnosis of lung cancer. There are specific criteria for high-risk patients.

You're considered high-risk if:

  • You're between the ages of 50-80 AND
  • You smoke now or have quit within the past 15 years AND
  • You have a smoking history of at least one pack per day for 20 years or comparable (i.e. 1/2 pack per day for 40 years)

Covered by Insurance

If you are considered high-risk, your insurance or Medicare plan should cover the cost of your test in full, with no co-pay. Discuss the benefits and risks of lung cancer screening using LDCT with your physician. Working together will help you decide whether screening is a good option for you.

A doctor's order is required for this screening

Your healthcare provider must order a lung screening consult before your appointment can be scheduled. If you don't have a healthcare provider, visit our Find A Physician page for options.
