PET CT at the North Campus

Iberia Medical Center recently announced that it is now offering Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography (PET/CT) services at the North Campus. 

PET/CT is a combination of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and X-Ray Computed Tomography (CT). Together, this diagnostic technology provides physicians with a series of images that can detect conditions that do not show  up on conventional scans. The procedure is painless and varies in duration, depending on the part of the body that is being scanned. 

PET uses small amounts of radiotracers, a special camera and a computer to evaluate organ and tissue functions. By identifying changes that are evident on the scans, PET may detect the early onset of disease, such as cancer, before other imaging tests can, which helps the oncology team determine the best course of treatment.

PET/CT is the latest advancement in the growing cancer service line at Iberia Medical Center.  The Cancer Center of Acadiana and the Infusion Center are both located at the Main Campus.  The North Campus is now home to PET/CT and the Women’s Diagnostic Center, providing multiple women’s services including the area’s only 3D mammography system and breast biopsies with and without contrast.
